A Brief History of Hemp

A Brief History of Hemp

A Brief History of Hemp:
This will be an abbreviated history as there is just too much ground to cover.  For the Serious History Buff, the internet is loaded with this subject matter.

Note: This article is long as it is a very dense topic. Most of my articles are long so don’t worry about reading it all in one visit. The information is very valuable to you so take your time and revisit the article a number of times.

  • How did the greed of Corporate Giants yank this awesome plant and its Health Benefits away from us for over 100 years?
  • Why did they do this?
  • What did that do to help destroy Preventative Medicine in the United States?
  • How did Infectious Diseases recede and the term Chronic Disease take Center Stage?

This below is a very interesting story. All you History Buffs out there should love it.
For those of you that aren’t into History, you can skip down to:
The Beginnings of Chronic Disease.

Ancient History:
Hemp is one of the earliest known harvested plants. Before that everything was wild picked such as fruit and berries.
Hemp was probably the earliest plant cultivated for textile fiber. Archaeologists found a remnant of hemp cloth in ancient Mesopotamia (currently Iran and Iraq) which dates back to 8,000 BC.
Hemp is also believed to be the oldest example of human industry.

Hemp is an ancient plant that has been cultivated for millennia. The Columbia History of the World (1996) states that weaving of hemp fiber began over 10,000 years ago! Carbon tests have suggested that the use of wild hemp dates before this.

The Middle Ages:
In Great Britain, hemp cultivation dates back to 800AD.
In the 16th Century, Henry VIII encouraged farmers to plant the crop extensively to provide materials for the British Naval fleet. A steady supply of hemp was needed for the construction of battleships and their components. Riggings, pendants, pennants, sails, and oakum were all made from hemp fiber and oil.
Hemp paper was used for maps, logs, and even for the Bibles that sailors may have brought on board.

Cultivation at the beginning of the Modern Age:
17th Century America, farmers in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut were ordered by law to grow Indian hemp. By the early 18th century, a person could be sentenced to jail if they weren’t growing hemp on their land! Hemp was considered to be legal tender. For over 200 years in Colonial America, hemp was a currency that one could use to pay their taxes with! (Don’t try that today, kids!)
The 1850 U.S. census documented approximately 8,400 hemp plantations of at least 2000 acres. Strains in cultivation included China hemp, Smyrna hemp, and Japanese hemp.
For years, hemp farmers used a handbrake operated machine when harvesting. Finally, a machine was built that would take care of all the processes, breaking the retted stalks and cleaning the fiber to produce clean, straight hemp fiber which was equal to the best grades prepared on hand brakes. This machine was able to harvest 1000 pounds or more of clean hemp fiber per hour. This breakthrough made cultivating more fiscally attractive by reducing labor costs. By 1920 the hemp crop was entirely handled by machinery.

Hemp Fuel & Auto Bodies:
In 1896 Rudolph Diesel had produced his famous engine. Like many others, Diesel assumed that the diesel engine would be powered by a variety of fuels, especially vegetable and seed oils.

Henry Ford of the Ford Motor Company seeing the potential of biomass fuels operated a successful biomass conversion plant producing hemp fuel at their Iron Mountain facility in Michigan. Ford engineers extracted methanol, charcoal fuel, tar, pitch, ethyl acetate and creosote, fundamental ingredients for modern industry. Today these are supplied by oil-related industries.

Ford was even making Auto Bodies out of Hemp that was stronger and lighter than steel.
He also made ethanol from hemp for the fuel to run the cars.
Prohibition: Here come the Greed!!!!!

Viewing hemp as a threat, a smear campaign against hemp was started by competing industries, associating hemp with marijuana.
Propaganda films like “Reefer Madness” assured hemp’s demise.

What Industries in the US were financially impacted by Hemp?
Here are a few examples of Big Business Greed vs. Hemp in the US:
Who were the main culprits aligned against Hemp Farming?

Industrialized hemp was a common crop in Colonial-era America. The plant was used for paper, textiles, as well as rope, among many other everyday objectives of the time period.

The first drafts of the US Constitution were written on Hemp Paper.
Our sailing ships including our War Ships relied heavily on hemp for ropes, sails.
and much more.
Hemp Fabric vs Cotton:
Hemp fabric is far superior to cotton. Clothing made from hemp continue getting better and softer as they age.
Hemp Doesn’t Wear out as Quickly as Cotton.
Hemp fabric is said not to wear out but rather softens over time. Its fiber can be woven into light materials for clothing, durable textiles for commercial industrial purposes, and even into very strong ropes and cables for heavy lifting and pulling.

Hemp Highlight:
Farming Hemp is restoring the land!!!
We all know that our farmlands are played out and stripped of all their nutrients.
Growing hemp actually restores the vitality back into our farmland.
It was used to restore the thousands of acres of farmland around Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster.

Two of the Main Hemp Neigh Sayers:
William Randolph Hearst Jr. and the Dupont Family.
A quick explanation of why they wanted the US to do away Hemp:

  • Hearst didn’t want competition for his massive lumber holdings that he used to make the paper for his newspapers.
  • The Duponts owned Dupont Chemical that invented a fabric named Rayon used in making clothing. Hemp cloth was in direct competition. They were also involved in the paper

It is easy to see why these people and their companies wanted to view the last of hemp.
With a little digging, you can see why hemp was dangerous to a number of other industries as well!!!

Let’s take a look at the competition industry by industry:
Paper made from hemp is age-old.
The word “canvas” is derived from the word cannapaceus, a Latin adjective that literally means “made from hemp.” For centuries, painters used hemp canvases from the Renaissance artists to 17th-century masters like Van Gogh and Rembrandt.
The Constitution of the United States was printed on paper made from hemp.
Growing Hemp is a faster and cheaper way to make quality paper. It even improves our farmland and yet Hearst went to war to get it blackballed.

Textile Industry:
Cotton Vs Rayon
Rayon is a breathable, man made fiber made from naturally occurring materials.
Although it is technically ‘manmade,’ it is not considered synthetic because the fabric is regenerated cellulose fiber from plant materials, usually wood pulp.
While cotton and rayon fibers are both made from the same polymer (cellulose), cotton’s cellulose is grown in five to six months by plants.
Rayon’s cellulose is produced from trees, which require a much longer time (Years) to grow before they are big enough for harvesting.

Hemp vs Both:
Hemp fabric or hemp textiles are made from Cannabis Sativa fiber or industrial hemp. The usage of hemp fiber or cannabis sativa fiber as materials for clothing is not something new. Hemp fiber has been used for thousands of years and in fact materials made from hemp were discovered in tombs dating back to 8,000 BC. Hemp was used in varieties of applications in early civilizations in Asia, Middle East, and China. For instance, hemp was used in making paper in China, rope, ships rigged, canvas, sailcloth, sacks and many more in Asia and the Middle East.
The best climates for growing hemp are warm tropical zones or moderately cool and temperate climates. Hemp also leaves the soil in excellent condition for any succeeding crop. Hemp’s strong roots could penetrate for three feet or more underground. The roots anchor and protect the soil from runoff. They build and preserve topsoil and subsoil structures similar to those of forests.
Hemp also does not exhaust the soil. Hemp plants add rich organic matter to the topsoil and helping it retain moisture.

With impressive reasons such as the above, it becomes obvious that Hearst and the Duponts would fear hemp as a very powerful competitor.

Hemp vs Fossil Fuel Industry:
Let’s lump the Steel Industry in this as you will read below.
Fossil fuels are an incredibly dense form of energy, and they took millions of years to become so. And when they’re gone, they’re gone pretty much gone forever.
Clearly, fossil fuel reserves are finite – it’s only a matter of when they run out – not if.  Globally – every year we currently consume the equivalent of over 11 billion tonnes of oil in fossil fuels. Crude oil reserves are vanishing at the rate of 4 billion tonnes a year – if we carry on at this rate without any increase for our growing population or aspirations, our known oil deposits will be gone by 2052.

We’ll still have gas left, and coal too. But if we increase gas production to fill the energy gap left by oil, then those reserves will only give us an additional eight years, taking us to 2060.  But the rate at which the world consumes fossil fuels is not standing still, it is increasing as the world’s population increases and as living standards rise in parts of the world that until recently had consumed very little energy.  Fossil Fuels will, therefore, run out earlier.
Hemp has the capacity to replace petroleum as a source of energy. Industrial geniuses like Henry Ford have long recognized the value of biomass fuel, calling it “the fuel of the future.” Ford constructed a car made from hemp plastic and ran the car on ethanol made from hemp. The plastic was lighter than steel and could withstand 10 times the impact without denting. Ford knew hemp could produce vast economic resources if widely cultivated. About six percent of contiguous United States land area put into cultivation for biomass could supply all current demands for oil and gas while maintaining a neutral carbon system.

Energy-farming can be the new green backbone of the American way for the 21st century and beyond as it once was before the age of cheap oil. This new system could be employed by massive, unregulated hemp energy farming, with the ethics of a new culture of conservation.
bThe United Nations has reported the need to reform farming, especially to the degree of multi-functional operations that are both secure and sovereign and can be coordinated on a large scale for many different purposes. Hemp is the ideal crop for this task.

With people like Henry Ford making auto bodies and fuel from hemp that was better than steel and ethanol that was better than fossil fuel it is no wonder that Hearst and the Duponts could get plenty of other Greedy Industrialists to join them in their war against this remarkable crop.
Let’s see. Hemp is:

  • Stronger and lighter than steel.
  • Better & Faster paper products
  • Clean Bio Fuel
  • Great for Clothing. Much better than Cotton or Rayon

And it HEALS our Farmlands to Boot!!!!!!

Greed at the Highest Levels:
By Lobbying against Hemp and lumping it into the fear of Reefer Madness that was scaring Middle America these Greedy SOB’s helped remove an extremely important nutritive plant and its many uses from us for over 100 years!!!
Be sure to watch the news video at the end of this article!!!

So what did all this do to Health Care and Preventive Medicine here in the United States? Read on!

Brief History of Hemp in Our Food Chain & Diets:
Hemp has been an extremely important part of the human diet for thousands of years.
The hemp plant is loaded with CBD Oil and Omega 3, 6, & 9 Fatty Acids which is also found in Fish Oil. Most of you already know about the value of the Omega 3’s from Fish Oil.
Up until the 1990’s, there was no knowledge of something called the Cannabinoid or endocannabinoid system of receptors in our brains and bodies.
There are other sources of CBD but humans consumed large amounts of hemp protein, its oil and its seeds for centuries. Hemp was our primary source.
Hemp was removed from our food chain due to the greed of the people and their companies I wrote about above in this article.
I don’t believe they realized what they were taking away from us as our medical community didn’t yet know what the Endocannabinoid System was or how important it was to all mammals.
Removing CBD from our diets was the beginning of the Chronic Disease Epidemic in the United States.

Note: For you science buffs this below is a good Wikipedia article:

From Wikipedia:
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the mammalian central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system.
The endocannabinoid system is involved in regulating a variety of physiological and
cognitive processes including fertilitypregnancy, during pre-and postnatal development, appetitepain-sensationmood, and memory, and in mediating the pharmacological effects of cannabis. The ECS is also involved in mediating some of the physiological and cognitive effects of voluntary physical exercise in humans and other animals, such as contributing to exercise-induced euphoria as well as modulating locomotor activity and motivational salience for rewards. In humans, the plasma concentration of certain endocannabinoids (i.e., anandamide) have been found to rise during physical activity; since endocannabinoids can effectively penetrate the blood-brain barrier, it has been suggested that anandamide, along with other euphoriant neurochemicals, contributes to the development of exercise-induced euphoria in humans, a state colloquially referred to as a runner’s high.

According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, two tablespoons of hemp seeds contain:

  • 111 calories
  • 3 g of protein
  • 8 g of fat
  • 7 g of carbohydrates (including 0.8 g of fiber and 0.3 g of sugar).

That same 2 Tbsp serving provides:

  • 32% of your daily magnesium needs,
  • 15% of zinc
  • 11% of iron.

Three tablespoons of hemp seeds contain 33 micrograms of folate and as much potassium as a small banana. Hemp seeds are also an easy way to add fiber to your diet.

The Beginnings of Chronic Disease
You can blame companies like Monsanto for some of it!!! Not only does their Roundup like spray poisons (Think Agent Orange) destroy the ground they follow that up with GMO Seeds to complete their Trifecta of ruining our health through science.
The Beginning of the End of Preventative Medicine:
In 1937 Hemps Competitors got their wish:
When Congress passed the Marijuana Tax Act in 1937, the decline of hemp effectively began. The tax and licensing regulations of the act made hemp cultivation nearly impossible for American farmers. Anslinger, the chief promoter of the Tax Act, argued for anti-marijuana legislation around the world.
An interesting situation arose during World War II as American Farmers were prohibited from producing hemp because of the 1937 law. However, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor halted the importation of Manila hemp from the Philippines, prompting the USDA to rethink their agenda and creating a call to action with the release of the film Hemp for Victory, motivating American Farmers to grow hemp for the war effort. The government formed a private company called War Hemp Industries to subsidize hemp cultivation. One million acres of hemp were grown across the Midwest as part of this program. As soon as the war ended, all of the hemp processing plants were shut down and the industry again disappeared. However, wild hemp may be found scattered across the country.
From 1937 until the late 1960s the United States government recognized that Industrial Hemp and marijuana were two distinct varieties of the cannabis plant. After the Controlled Substances Act was passed, hemp was no longer recognized as being distinct from marijuana.

How did removing Hemp with its CBD Oil from our Food Chain help contribute to the rise of Chronic Disease and the Wide Spread use of Big Pharma and its Toxic Drugs?

Chronic Diseases: The Leading Causes of Death and Disability in the United States:
They are Man Made Folks!!!

Chronic diseases and conditions—such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and arthritis—are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems. They are Man Made!

  • As of 2012, about half of all adults—117 million people—had one or more chronic health conditions. One in four adults had two or more chronic health conditions.
  • Seven of the top 10 causes of death in 2014 were chronic diseases. Two of these chronic diseases—heart disease and cancer—together accounted for nearly 46% of all deaths.
  • Obesity is a serious health concern. During 2011–2014, more than one-third of adults (36%), or about 84 million people, were obese.
  • Arthritis is the most common cause of disability. Of the 54 million adults with doctor-diagnosed arthritis, more than 23 million say they have trouble with their usual activities because of arthritis.
  • Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, lower-limb amputations other than those caused by injury, and new cases of blindness among adults.

    Why do I say Man-made???

Poor lifestyle choices, such as smoking, overuse of alcohol, poor diet, lack of physical activity and inadequate relief of chronic stress are key contributors in the development and progression of preventable chronic diseases, including obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and several types of cancer. Even though doctors encourage healthful behaviors to help prevent or manage many chronic medical conditions, many patients are inadequately prepared to either start or maintain these appropriate, healthy changes. Most patients understand the reasoning behind a healthy lifestyle even if they don’t understand the disease processes that can occur when they don’t maintain healthy habits.

So what do most people do about these above health issues?

Run to Their Doctor – Beg for Toxic Drugs:
What could be Easier Than Swallowing a Handful of Pills???

We are already being bombarded by toxins in our air, water, in our homes especially the older ones with Asbestos and lead in the pipes.
Our diets are loaded with toxins all the way from Farm to Fork. Our produce is being grown in anemic soil and sprayed with everything that companies like Monsanto can come up with along with starting the whole process with GMO Seeds.

So what do most doctors do?
They pull out the Prescription Pad!

Cholesterol – Statins: Statins are worse for us than the High
I actually have met Woke doctors that admitted it to me.

Blood Pressure & Obesity – Too many meds to list
I put those two together because Obesity and overweight usually led to High Blood Pressure. That hamburger may look good on the outside.
What it is doing to our insides is another story. I love a good hamburger and I et one about once every three months.
Some of the many side effects of BP Meds:

  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Erection problems
  • Feeling nervous
  • Feeling tired, weak, drowsy, or a lack of energy
  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Skin rash
  • Weight loss or gain without trying

Dropping Blood Pressure is an easy one if you are willing to get a little exercise and drop some weight.
Do not go to your doctor and get diet pills to drop the weight to help your blood pressure !!!!!
Many Diet pills are like speed!!!! They will raise your blood pressure with dangerous results. The FDA  has OKed hundreds of them:

Why do most people believe that the FDA is on our side???
Here is a statement from Internet Research:
Although Canadian health authorities have identified amphetamine-like substances in several weight-loss and workout supplements and banned them, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has released a statement claiming that the supplements in question do not “identify a specific safety concern at this time.

Obesity is a risk factor for high blood pressure, but choosing the wrong weight loss path can worsen your condition rather than improve it. The manufacturers of diet pills market their products wisely, leading an obese person to believe he can lose 20 pounds in one month by taking a magic pill alone. These manufacturers fail to mention the possible dangers these pills pose to a person with a preexisting condition such as high blood pressure.

There are so many healthy things that you can do for diabetes. Do not fold and start taking all kinds of toxic drugs before you exhaust your options.
I have helped a number of vets get off of insulin.
A product I found to help my wife cure her colitis also helped get friends of mine off of it.
A year ago we found that CBD Oil from the hemp plant was working wonders with diabetes.
Here are a few Diabetes testimonials from a very active CBD Oil Testimonials FB Page I belong to:

William Isaac West For those of you who are type 2 diabetes, I also have type 2, I began using CBD 750 slightly over a month ago. I have gone from using up to 50units of insulin per day to taking NO insulin at all, however, I do still take the metformin 850mg twice a day. My average blood sugar over the last 30 days? 109!!! My doctor is amazed as well.

Leslie Alves, I have diabetic nerve pain, primarily in my feet, but it CAN present in other extremities as well. I will place several drops of the 750 oil on them and massage it in. It has provided some relief.
I personally feel that it is a great alternative to Lyrica or Gabapentin, you will get relief and have absolutely NO side effects.

Patrick Kessler
For the last 13 years, I have been fighting type 2 diabetes. This disease has changed my life in that I am afraid to leave the house because I can’t eat carbs and I feel awkward😬 going out to restraints and just ordering salad and water. I have been prescribed metformin, Januvia, simvastatin, losartan help combat this crazy disease.😜 I was close to 300lbs in weight. I was basically afraid to go out🍷. I would go to training and workshop for my job and that would be it. I even pack my own lunch.🥙 My doctor threatened me with insulin shots  And I still could not bring my numbers down.
Fast forward to July of 2017, I met a person who has become a very good friend, at a workshop. We would talk every day. In September she introduced me to CBD oil. She explained to me how it worked and I also did a lot of research on this wonderful natural supplement.
In October of 2017, I gave CBD a try. It has been the best decision of my life. After taking it for a month it helped bring down my numbers. Two months later my A1C test was down to 7.9. My numbers # were in range 6⃣% of the time.
5 months later my # is in the range 91% and my A1C is predicting to be 6.5. Not only has it helped my diabetes but it has lowered my blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides. I am down to taking 2 pills a day now. CBD oil has helped me so much and has given me confidence in my self. I am finally getting to enjoy some of the foods that I like but had to give up. If it can help me it can help you 🤩

There are hundreds of more testimonials but you get the picture. To be invited into our private Testimonials FB Page Email me at: DonP@PTSDHotline.Com

So Hemp is Black Balled for about 100 years!!!
How did removing Hemp from our diets help cause the spread of Chronic Diseases?
There are many conflicting explanations of what the meaning of Chronic Disease is.
The most common denominator is Man Made Toxins and poor Lifestyle Choices such as Drug Abuse, Alcohol Consumption, Smoking, Lack of Exercise, etc.
Another main contributor is a poor diet of Fast Foods and sodas. Anemic Produce found in most grocery stores loaded with toxic sprays and too much Red Meat or saturated fat adds to the Critical Mass. Sorry but that “Critical Mass contributes to your Brand New Ass”; As sung by Boz Skaggs in one of my favorite songs by him “Get On The Natch”!
All of this leads to huge buildups of toxins in our bodies.
The CBD’s found in hemp that was prevalent in our diets for thousands of years was a powerful detoxing agent that would have helped if it hadn’t been taken away from us. We must detox this crap that is going into our bodies or we end up with all those Chronic Diseases.
Also, hemp growing helped improve our farm’s soil but farmers were restricted from growing it.
All this led to a very sick population that ran to their doctors to load up on more and more toxic drugs.
Unless we all get a lot smarter and get things like CBD Oil, Hemp Proteans, supplementation through Food Based nutrients and the Omega’s from Fish Oil we will continue to watch the spread of Big Pharma and their blind rush to help us into an early grave.

The great news is that more and more doctors and researchers are waking up to this every day and helping their patients move away from the Opioid Epidemic and all the other Man Made Chronic Illnesses.
